Crannmór Pottery
Crannmór Pottery is situated in the picturesque town of Ballinrobe in County Mayo. The pottery is both a shop and a workshop run by myself and has been at this location since 1995. Crannmór is the irish for 'big tree' and you will find this on my stamp along with my initials. I sell from my own shop and also supply six other outlets throughout the country.
Before I set up my workshop I worked with various potters and studied ceramic design. I spent three years at the Crawford College of Art and Design in Cork city And received a diploma in ceramic design. After my time in Cork I spent a year on a course for throwing skills in Thomastown, County Kilkenny. It was during this time that I developed a functional range of my own. I finished the year with a distinction and a best pupil award.
I then spent the next two years working with various potters in the Galway area. During this time I became more experienced with the throwing of many different shapes. I also had more insight into the commercial side of pottery workshops.
In the summer of 1994 I opened my own workshop in Cong, County Mayo with some financial help from the Mayo Enterprise Board. In May 1995 I relocated to a bigger premises in Ballinrobe. I changed my name to Crannmor Pottery which is the name of the area.
I have exhibition work in a gallery in Dublin and I take part in a group exhibition each year. I also produce functional work - mugs candle holders lamps etc.
