Mayo County Council is the fire Authority for the administrative area of County Mayo and the urban districts of Castlebar, Ballina and Westport. The Council employs 131 part-time firemen located in 12 mobile units and 8 hose and ladder units. The mobile units are located in strategic towns spread throughout the county in order to provide a good level of fire and emergency cover to the community. Hose and Ladder Units are located in villages and they are designed to provide a first aid fire fighting service until the arrival of the nearest mobile unit.
